#oh man this scene cuts me so deep #because damon has been a vampire for 145 years or so #and he loves this woman who he thinks is trapped in a tomb sealed by a spell that’s going to take a shitload of work to be broken #and nobody gave a fucking shit about how miserable it must have been existing without her and having to deal with how lonely he felt #until this teenage girl #who happens to be his loved one’s doppelganger but anyway that’s just a tiny little detail #anyway this girl he met just a few days ago says a few words and actually reaches much deeper than any other person has ever reached #because she’s not faking it; she’s not trying to take advantage of him #she’s genuinely sorry for what happened to him #she’s seeing right through him unlike even his brother who just sees the monster on the outside #she’s actually acknowledging his existence not just as a hot guy or a killer machine as people usually do #she’s just seeing this man who lost the woman he loves and deserves respect and caring just like everyone else #the fact that she’s still so oblivious in this episode about who he is #and still manages to bring out the purest side of him to surface never fails to make me weep like a hungry baby #and then when they find out katherine’s not in the tomb and damon is devastated #she is the first one to go out of her way and repeat those very same words: i’m sorry #i’m sorry you are in pain #i’m sorry you are going through this #i’m sorry you are not happy #i’m sorry damon #she is the first one to reach out for him and hold him without even thinking twice about it #somebody make me stop typing because i could go on forever and ever #this is how you otp people jfc why isn’t shipping this couple a worldwide law or something
